So much have being written and said about Jose Mourinho’s second coming to Stamford Bridge as an opposing manager. Whilst his first ‘home coming’ was heralded with a nostalgic feeling among Chelsea supporters, this time it’s different. There are scores to settle and there are players who are out to prove a point to their former boss.

Key players like Diego Costa and Eden Hazard felt the full brunt of last season’s tumultuous title defence, after being publicly criticised by Mourinho. While Victor Moses who has emerged as an important player under Antonio Conte felt he wasn’t given a chance by ‘The special one’. Moses who was sent out on loan to Westham, Liverpool and Stoke City during Mourinho’s second spell at the club, said the former Chelsea gaffer never spoke to him face to face.

Then there is the case of Antonio Conte, the fiery Italian who was appointed during the summer to turn Chelsea’s fortune around. He has had a mixed start to his premier league career but seem to have finally found the right balance for the team with back to back impressive wins against Hull and Leicester City. The former Juventus and Italy coach will be keen to banish the ghost of Mourinho from Stamford Bridge and fully exert his influence and philosophy on the club.

Since Conte’s arrival, Chelsea have been pulling toward a different direction with greater intensity, energy and most notably a high backline of three centre backs and two wing backs. And there is no better way for the Italian to lay the foundation of his new dynasty than beating the man who built the last one.

And of course there is a certain Roman Abramovich who will be 50 on Monday. The oligarch who will be watching from the owner’s box at Stamford Bridge, as the man whom he has paid off twice and the man he brought in to fix the rot battle for supremacy. An impressive  three points against Jose’s Manchester United will be a perfect birthday present to the Russian billionaire who has being bankrolling the west London club since the summer of 2003. The onus is on Conte and Chelsea to deliver the desired result. Game on!!!
